DRILLSTRING DESIGN AND OPERATING LIMITS FOR HORIZONTAL WELLS

Instructor
Frank Schuh, Drilling Technology, Inc.

Intended Audience
This course is designed primarily for operators and operating
personnel involved in designing and supervising horizontal
drilling operations.

Description
Participants will obtain a direct practical method for designing horizontal drillstrings. Techniques offered include designing horizontal drillstrings to properly load the bottom hole assembly and to provide data and methods for establishing safe operating limits for horizontal strings. The course includes numerous charts and plots that define performance and operating limits for drillstring components.

The seminar covers the following topics:
Unconventional Nature • Drillstring Design • Buckling • Torque
and Drag Calculations • Twist in Drillstring • Operating Limits
for Horizontal Drillstring • Fatigue and Bending Stresses • Bending
Stresses and Maximum Axial Load for Buckled Pipe • Axial
Friction of Buckled Pipe • Drillstring Design Strategy.

Duration: One Day Short Course, April 4th, 8am-5pm
Tuition: $450 Member PreReg/$550 All Others
Credit Hours: 0.8 CEUs (Continuing Education Units)
awarded for this 1-day course.
